Yearning for the beach

The weather has turned windy and rainy after six weeks or so with hardly any rain. On the warmest days, I would have loved to go to the beach, but what with the lockdown due to the SARS-Cov-2 pandemic, it hasn't been sensible to go there. I've missed the sensory pleasure of being there (although not missed the inevitable crowds). My yearning gave rise to this ....

Au bord de la mer
Hot bright sunlight on my face
Drying salty hair and lashes
Legs wet with sandy splashes
Feet tingle with shingle scratches
Cool wavelets’ sea foam catches
My skirt hem like liquid lace

Quantum Entanglement, or Rapunzel's Lament

The Wind whips fingers through my hair,
Lifting random tendrils in the air.
I meant to plait it, but forgot
And now it's flying everywhere.
He plays with them until I've got
My tangled tresses tied in lovers' knots.

Swimming Solo

Gliding forwards over the buoyant deep
I watch my glistening nails
Pushing towards the horizon,
The small bow wave they made
Breaking over my hands
Softly chill on my skin.
Floating weightless I lie,
Quiet except for my splash
And laughing, spin and dance,
Swirling bubbles in my wake.

Rain Dance

Raindrops pitter patter,
Tapping on the pavement.
Syncopated splashes
Spin on the swirling water and
Jump into puddles.
A blackbird shelters in the hedge,
Just singing in the rain.

Elemental Dancer

Rooted in the earth,
Arise,
Arms flowing like water
As the body
Ripples.
Veils catch the air,
Floating, turn and fly.
Motion blurs the starlight sequins,
Move and glitter like fire in the dark.
Show your spirit
Dance!

Favourite Things (in no particular order)

Sunlight on water, sequins and glitter,
Velvet and satin, silk and brocade,
Gold, silver, copper, brass, bronze and pewter,
Beads, stones and crystals, things that I've made.
Coffee and chocolate, fruits, breads and spices,
Colours and scents, Celtic knotwork and braid,
Dragonflies, butterflies, leaves in the Autumn,
Mothwings and flowers and long summer days.
Blue skies and starry nights, beaches and birds,
Computers and books, lounging, log fire ablaze,
Cats, friendships, happiness, laughter and love,
Music and singing and dancing always.
